Kenneling

"I was very impressed with the facility and the attention my dog (Mason) received. It was very nice to see the journal. Mason seemed well exercised and didn’t exhibit the usual excess energy that he has when staying in other kennels. I will use your services again and we will recommend you to our friends. Your flexibility around pick-up and drop off times is excellent. Thanks." - S.S. Alexandria, MN

Safety is our number one concern. The floors and side walls are sealed, cleaned daily, and sanitized between each use. The exercise areas are scooped in between each dog’s use. Our kennels are air conditioned in the summer and the heat source for the colder months is in- floor heat. They are well lit and cheery. We play relaxing music for the dogs during the day. We have three rooms for cats and other small animals. Our welcome area is warm and inviting with knotty pine covered walls. We are excited our new facility offers step free access for animals and humans alike.

Our standard size kennels are 24 square feet. We offer doubled size kennels for larger dogs or families with multiple pets. Solid walls separate each kennel (instead of chain link fence) to allow each dog his/her privacy. Our new facility has 8 exercise areas, each measuring approximately 1,100 square feet. The exercise areas are separated by chain link fence and cement underground 18-24 inches for added safety. This allows the dogs to interact with other dogs in a safe and secure manner.

Afordable Pet Services - Kennel View

We offer flexible arrival and departure times, by appointment, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. We do emphasis “by appointment.” Because we do offer arrival and departures times 14 hours a day, 365 days a year, it is unrealistic for us to be here all day every day and financially not practical to hire someone to be on site all of those hours.

We will work to find a mutually convenient time for drop off and pick up so the process is pleasant for all involved. We guarantee we will be present 15 minutes prior to and after your scheduled time. If you are going to be early or late we ask that you please call, as we are not able to guarantee to be available at earlier/later times. If you are visiting the area and would like to take your dog(s)on your boat, to the park, or hunting, while your pet(s) are in our care, please schedule these visits with Cindee or Mat.

Our days begin between 6 - 7 a.m. All the dogs get out to go potty. We start feeding breakfast to those dogs who eat breakfast. We guarantee your dog(s) will get time outside of his/her kennel a minimum of three times throughout the day. However, we work very hard to get them out of their kennels every four hours. Therefore, on average, dogs in our care get outside for exercise 5-6 times a day, with the exceptions being arrival and departure days ( you get the opportunity to spend time with your dog), holidays ( we would like some time with our family on holidays), and Sundays (Holy Day). We do allow drop off and pick up these days and do not charge a "holiday or weekend rate", nor do we require minimum stays for holidays or weekends. After 9 p.m. we begin our bedtime routine, which lasts about 15-20 minutes. I let each of the dogs in our care out to potty one last time for the night, and then each dog receives one on one personal attention. We make very attempt to continue your pet(s) home routine while (s)he is in our care.

Affordable Pet Services

We encourage you to bring items which may help comfort your pet(s). You may want to bring a t-shirt, towel, or pillow case you have worn/used and not washed that smells like you. If your dog(s) normally sleep in a pet porter or pet bed, bring those with you. If your pet(s) is used to sleeping on your bed, throw an old rug or bath towel on your bed for a couple of nights to bring. Please bring bedding that is washable, replaceable, and be aware bedding might be damaged. As hard as we try to make the dogs comfortable, it isn’t home. I liken it to humans sleeping at a motel. They may have some nervous energy they could take out on their bedding. If we see they are chewing on their bedding we will remove it for their safety. We use stainless steel bowls because they can be thoroughly disinfect. Therefore, unless you are concerned about your pet not drinking or eating out of stainless steel, it is one less thing for you to pack. If you do choose to bring your dishes from home, we ask they be in a condition which would lend itself to washing, they be unbreakable, and not valuable to you. If your pet requires medication, please bring it with you (in it’s original container)and we will administer it at no charge.

We will bathe your dog(s) and wash its bedding/bowls, before going home if we are given the required two hour notice.

It is our policy to have current vaccination records for every dog in our care. The required vaccinations for dogs are rabies, distemper/parvo combination (including hepatitus), and bordetella. Most dogs are current with rabies, distemper, and parvo. However, bordetella is not given unless your vet is aware the dog maybe kenneled or groomed. Therefore, please double check this vaccination. You may bring documentation with you or you may fax the records to us at your convenience.

Please follow your veterinarian’s health care and vaccination recommondations. We also recommend you discuss with your vet heartworm prevention and a topical flea and tick remedy. We invite you to make an appointment to view our facility before your pet(s) stays with us. We encourage you to bring your pet(s) (they must be current on the required vaccinations). This will allow your pet(s) the opportunity to meets us, we can meet them, and they will go home with you the first time they visit. This helps them become familiar with their surroundings and will help with the transition when your pet(s) stays in our care.

The first time your dog(s) stays in our care, we will take extra time upon arrival to do everything we can to help him/her to feel comfortable. We typically will sit with the dog until they appear calm and relaxed. Then, we let them out to the exercise area while we offer water and situate their bedding. When they return inside from the exercise area we will once again sit with them. Then we leave them for a few minutes, and go back to check on them to see how they are adjusting to the kennel environment.

Interior of our new building

Our new facility allows us the appropriate space to care for cats. We have three rooms for cats, separate from the dog kennels, which face the south and the warm afternoon sun shines through the window. Cats have the opportunity to sit on the window sill and sun themselves throughout the day. Fresh water is offered twice daily (or more often as needed) and the litter boxes are also cleaned two times a day. Cats enjoy one on one attention at the end of the day.

We invite you to bring items which may help comfort your cat(s). If your cat sleeps in his bed at home your are welcome to bring it along. If your cat(s) is used to sleeping on your bed, throw an old rug or bath towel on your bed for a couple of nights to bring. We use stainless steel bowls because they can be thoroughly disinfected. Therefore, unless you are concerned about your pet not drinking or eating out of stainless steel, it is one less thing for you to pack. If you do choose to bring your dishes from home we ask they be in a condition which would lend itself to washing, they be unbreakable, and not valuable to you. . If your pet requires medication, please bring it with you (in it’s original container) and we will administer it at no charge.

We have a water free foaming shampoo to clean your cat(s) before your return.

It is our policy to have up to date vaccination records for every cat in our care. Vaccinations required for cats are rabies, and FVRCPP. You may bring documentation with you or you may fax the records to us at your convenience.

Please contact us for information concerning care for other pets, i.e. fish, hamsters, pot-bellied pigs, birds, and any other species not mentioned.

In Home Pet Sitting

"Having a demanding full time career, I was concerned about the responsibility of getting home everyday over lunch to take my puppy out and spend quality time with her. Not only has Cindee been able to lighten my load by coming into my home 3 days/week to spend time with Ruthie, she has far surpassed any original expectations I ever had."

"Through a short period of time, I realized Cindee was someone I could trust. In the beginning, and to this day, I never seem to run out of questions for her about Ruthie. She always tries to go out of her way to answer them. What I appreciate the most are the logs she leaves for me regarding Ruthie and their time together. Cindee is insightful, intuitive, compassionate, and proactive. I can’t even explain how many times I have appreciated these qualities from her. She goes out of her way to do "extras". She volunteers without my asking to pick up Ruthie’s messes outside, takes the garbage in, and she has even put salt in the water softener for me knowing that I wasn’t able to do it alone. I have come to think of Cindee as a friend and a trusted partner in the care of my little Ruthie. I know Ruthie is in the VERY best of care when she stops to visit. She is a doer and a go-getter and I am extremely grateful to have found this service in our community." - S.L. Alexandria, MN

If traditional kenneling isn’t in your pet’s best interest, we also offer in home pet sitting. This service allows your pet(s) to stay in the comfort of their home environment while being cared for by insured and bonded professionals. In home pet sitting also helps give the appearance of your house being occupied. This service may also be most economical for you if you have multiple pets.

Before we begin providing services, we would come to your home for a free in-home consultation. During this free visit, Mat or Cindee will visit with you and your pet(s) to become familiar with your pet’s routine. Some of the information they will gather include, emergency contact information, vaccination records, preference of veterinary care, location of leashes, food, bowls, waste collection, medication instructions (if applicable) as well as a house key. Your pet’s vaccinations must also be up to date and a copy provided for your file. Affordable Pet Services is also expanding this service to include care for animals on small hobby farms. Again, a free consultation is offered to qualify "small hobby farm" services.

We will safely transport your pet to and from the veterinary clinic or grooming appointments, as well as to and from our kennel, in a climate controlled vehicle.

Our customers particularly like the convenience of their pets being picked up from and returned to their homes after their stay at our kennels. This allows the owner to continue to prepare for their trip and when they arrive home, the convenience of unpacking and settling back into their routines.
